ATLANTA – Artists utilizing fiber and textiles as creative palettes were the center of attention during a recent reception in their honor in conjunction with the ongoing exhibition, “Mining the Surface, New Sensibilities in Art Textiles” at the Forward Arts Foundation’s Swan Coach House Gallery. The reception was sponsored by Dorsey Alston, Realtors, led by president Jody Abstance, vice president Spalding White, and prominent agents Dore Brooks, Cindy Mallard and Jody Weatherly, who are also members of the Forward Arts Foundation.
The 15 established and emerging artists selected by exhibition co-curators Marianne Lambert and Junco Pollack work in a wide array of materials and art forms, from weaving and felting to heat-compression and digital transfer. “Like examples of more mainstream forms of art, each piece expresses a unique concept and requires considerable individual attention and expertise to execute,” notes Marianne Lambert. This is the first exhibition under the artistic guidance of new Gallery chair Jan Bennett.
“Mining the Surface” will be on view through September 20th. All proceeds from the Swan Coach House Gallery benefit the Forward Arts Foundation, which supports the visual arts in Atlanta. The Gallery is located at 3130 Slaton Drive, N.W., Atlanta, Georgia 30305, and is open Tuesday through Saturday 10:00a.m. – 4:00p.m.
